A registered psychiatrist has faced court after being charged with rape in a Brisbane suburb earlier this year.
Johannes Christiaan Ernst Scheepers, 70, faced Brisbane Arrest Court on Monday.
The Warner resident stands charged with rape and sexual assault, both alleged to have occurred in 2024.
Dr Scheepers, who was born in South Africa, has been registered as a medical practitioner in Australia since 2002, according to the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
There are currently no specific conditions on his registration.
At the matter’s first mention, defence lawyer Shane McDowell asked for an adjournment.
He explained that the matter would have to proceed in a higher court.
The matter was adjourned to September 16 at Brisbane Magistrates’ Court.
Dr Scheepers’ bail was enlarged.
