Henrico psychiatrist’s license revoked after sex allegations

A Henrico County-based psychiatrist’s license was revoked because he repeatedly sexually fondled patients despite their expressed objections and mental illnesses, according to Board of Medicine documents.
Dr. Anandababu Chellappan signed a consent order last week, according to board records, in which he accepted revocation of his license and the board adopted findings of fact that spell out egregious abuses of six female patients.
The documents describe a pattern of conduct dating to 2008 in which the psychiatrist prescribed controlled substances without standard protocols to one patient with a history of abusing drugs.
Chellappan, 67, violated the same mentally ill patient by touching and groping parts of her body and provided her a $100 Christmas present in addition to free sodas and cigarettes.
Chellappan, who operated out of an office on Radford Avenue in Henrico County near the Shops at Willow Lawn, received his license in December 1982.
